The last few months of 2017 have been very productive for Morgan Scott Project. God has blessed us abundantly.
In September, shortly after the beginning of the school year, we were able to host a clothing giveaway. We were assisted by Spring City United Methodist Church’s youth group. It was a joy to watch strangers work together to help one other search for clothing in their family’s sizes. We were able to give clothing items to over 40 families.
We hosted our second annual Fall Festival on Halloween. 100 plus children enjoyed bounce house, obstacle course, crafts, free books and stuffed animals were given out, and food was provided.
One of our most rewarding programs is the Christmas giveaway it warms our hearts to see the relief on the faces of parents and guardians knowing that their child/children will have a blessed Christmas. We were overwhelmed with the amount of generosity from our donors this year. From individual support to churches and other local organizations you all out did yourselves. God has truly been good to Morgan Scott Project. Through all the generosity we were able to serve 447 families and a total of 1,241 children for Christmas in the two counties.
$101,000 SENIOR LIVING GRANT, Home Repair for Seniors: 40 homes were made better, safer, and warmer for our senior citizens with these funds.
WORK GROUPS AND HOME REPAIR: We have hosted 23 work groups, 298 volunteers from churches and organizations across the country. Which enabled us to work on 30 homes and 6 Community Service Projects.
RAM (Remote Area Medical): Through Remote Area Medical we were blessed to be able to help 97 individuals with either glasses or dental work.
New Light Educational Support: Morgan Scott received a $15,000 grant from the Thompson Foundation to help with educational support this year. We have been able to help 63 students ranging from young adults to older adults further their education.
Food on Friday: We are so thankful for the First Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, TN that have been working with Karns UMC and Solway UMC to meet the Second Harvest Food Truck each week and deliver to MSP. With their help we have been able to provide 5,062 families with perishable food this year.
Food Boxes: Families in need can receive a box of non-perishable food once a month. The boxes are packed according to family size and provide several meals for the month. We gave out 1,335 food boxes this year to families.
Good Earth: 331 families were given a variety of plants and seeds this year to grow their own fresh vegetables to eat over the summer and can or freeze the excess for the winter months. We also hosted a canning class to teach our younger families how to can.
Emergency Aid: 202 families received emergency aid for utilities, doctor co-pays, rent, and meds.
Back Packs: 254 Children in Morgan County were provided Back Packs filled with school supplies.
Thrift Store: Our Thrift Store is doing great! Thanks to all the items that are being donated locally and well as from afar. Keep up the good work.
Free Medical Clinic: Dr. Kim comes once a month to provide services for anyone in need.
Christmas Toy Give away: 1,241 children received gifts this year.
2017 was indeed a very blessed year for Morgan Scott Project. Along with the generosity and kindness of our donors and volunteers we were able to enrich the lives of many families in Morgan and Scott Counties this year. May God continue to bless those who are able to share their blessing and talents with others as well as those in need.
As the new year begins we will start taking applications for home repair which will bring fourth the need for volunteers to work at the office or do construction work on the homes. If you or your organization would like to come spend a week we can provide housing.
